The Motion Sensor is a sonar device that emits ultrasonic pulses, which reflect off an object. It measures the time it takes a high frequency sound pulse to travel from the sensor to an object and back. This time data is used, together with the speed of sound to determine the distance of an object from the sensor.
The Motion Sensor is now self-powered and includes a built-in rechargeable battery pack and power supply unit, making it suitable for use with all EasySense units, including EasySense Link, Q3, Q5 and Flash Logger.
When set in any of the 3 Distance ranges, the Motion sensor uses temperature compensation for greater accuracy. When using the Time range, temperature compensation is not used; therefore the correlation between temperature and the speed of sound can be investigated. See '5 Minute Datalogging Activities'.
